Ceramic Sculpture Nuclear Family

£25.00

We would love to know the artist for this wonderful contemporary piece so if anyone knows, please do get in touch! Reminiscent of so many renowned styles- Staffordshire flatbacks, Rye Pottery figurines, etc., this hand-sculpted ceramic nuclear family, depicting two parents and their two children, one being a babe in arms, has such appeal. The subtle smiles-as if they've been told to smile for the camera, the visual similarity between the parents and the children, the traditional composition of Dad standing with the firstborn and Mum with the newborn, the reference of pattern and colour across the piece, the wonderful homely addition of the armchair..it all adds up to be quite an interesting and striking, if stereotypical, white, middle class, modern family. We do not know the age of this piece but we feel the subject matter, composition, and clothing clues suggest it is from the 1980s onwards. Measuring 14 x 9 x 8 cm approximately, the sculpture has a glazed finish, with potentially intentional crazing, and is hollow.
